Alice Ann Bailey was born Alice La Trobe-Bateman in Manchester, England. She moved to the United States in 1907, where she spent most of her life working as a writer and teacher. Bailey wrote approximately 25 books focused on Theosophy, a spiritual movement concerned with esoteric knowledge and the nature of divinity. She was one of the first writers to employ the term 'New Age,' which would later become associated with a broader cultural movement.
