Amanda Montell is an American author, writer, and linguist. She has published three books exploring the intersection of language and human behavior. Her debut work, Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language, was published in 2019. This was followed by Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism in 2021, which examines how language functions within cult communities and ideological groups. Her most recent book, The Age of Magical Overthinking: Notes on Modern Irrationality, was published in 2024.
