Anthony Trollope

Anthony Trollope was an English novelist and civil servant of the Victorian era. Born in 1815 and dying in 1882, he produced a substantial body of work that established him as one of the most significant literary figures of his time. Trollope is best known for his novels, of which he wrote 47 in total. His most celebrated works include two series of six novels each: the Chronicles of Barsetshire and the Palliser novels. He also wrote The Way We Live Now, which remains widely read today. His novels characteristically address political, social, and gender issues alongside other topical matters of his era. Beyond his novels, Trollope's literary output was remarkably diverse. He wrote an autobiography, a book on fellow Victorian author William Makepeace Thackeray, a biographical work on Lord Palmerston, five travel books, and 42 short stories. This range of writing reflected both his intellectual interests and his career as a civil servant, which ran parallel to his literary work.
