Bruce D. Perry is an American psychiatrist specializing in children's mental health and neurosciences. Born in Bismarck, North Dakota in 1955, he has built a career focused on understanding and treating childhood trauma. Perry held the position of Thomas S. Trammell Research Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine from 1993 to 2001, where he also served as chief of psychiatry at Texas Children's Hospital. He currently works as senior fellow of the Child Trauma Academy in Houston, Texas, and holds an adjunct professorship in psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. Beyond his clinical and academic work, Perry is an author of several books in his field.
