Dan Simmons

Daniel Joseph Simmons was an American science fiction and horror writer whose work frequently crossed genre boundaries. He is best known for the Hyperion Cantos and the Ilium/Olympos cycles, two major series that exemplify his ambitious approach to speculative fiction. Simmons's genre-blending novel Song of Kali, published in 1985, won the World Fantasy Award and demonstrated his ability to weave science fiction, horror, and fantasy elements within a single work. This willingness to mix genres became a hallmark of his career, with many of his novels incorporating elements from multiple traditions rather than adhering to a single category. Beyond his major series, Simmons also wrote mysteries and thrillers. Some of these works featured Joe Kurtz, a continuing character that showed his range across different types of fiction.
