E. L. James is a British author whose real name is Erika Mitchell. She gained international recognition for writing the Fifty Shades series of erotic romance novels, which became a bestselling phenomenon and spawned a film trilogy adaptation. Before achieving mainstream success, James wrote Twilight fan fiction under the web name Snowqueens Icedragon. Her fan fiction story, titled "Master of the Universe," served as the foundation for what would eventually become the Fifty Shades series. This transition from fan fiction to published novels marked a significant moment in contemporary publishing. In 2019, James published The Mister, her first novel set outside the Fifty Shades fictional universe. The book received negative critical reception.
