Edward Blishen

Edward Blishen was an English author and broadcaster who lived from 1920 to 1996. He is best known for his work in children's literature, particularly for collaborating with Leon Garfield on novels based on Greek mythology. Blishen and Garfield's first collaboration, The God Beneath the Sea, was illustrated by Charles Keeping and published by Longman in 1970. The book was highly acclaimed, earning Blishen and Garfield the Carnegie Medal from the Library Association that year, an award recognising the best children's book by a British subject. The success of this first novel led to a second children's book based on Greek mythology. Beyond his work in children's literature, Blishen was also active as a broadcaster, contributing to the cultural landscape of mid-twentieth-century Britain.
