George Burges was an English classical scholar who devoted much of his career to translating the works of ancient Greek writers. He produced translations of the three great Greek tragedians—Euripides, Aeschylus, and Sophocles—as well as translations of Plato's philosophical works. Through these translations, Burges made significant Greek classical texts accessible to English-speaking audiences.
