Jennifer Worth

Jennifer Louise Worth was a British memoirist, nurse, and midwife born in 1935. She worked in the poverty-stricken East End of London during the 1950s, where she gained extensive experience that would later form the foundation of her writing. Drawing on her professional experiences in nursing and midwifery, Worth wrote a bestselling trilogy of memoirs. Call the Midwife was published in 2002, followed by Shadows of the Workhouse in 2005 and Farewell to The East End in 2009. These works documented her time working in one of London's most deprived areas. After leaving her nursing career, Worth pursued a different path and retrained as a musician. She died in England in 2011.
