John Edward Gray

John Edward Gray was a British zoologist who made significant contributions to the field of taxonomy. He was the elder brother of George Robert Gray, also a zoologist, and the son of Samuel Frederick Gray, a pharmacologist and botanist. Gray's work was influential enough that the standard author abbreviation J.E.Gray is used when citing both botanical and zoological names attributed to him, a practice that reflects his standing in the scientific community.
