Naomi Novik is an American author of speculative fiction. She is best known for the Temeraire series, a seven-book alternate history of the Napoleonic Wars that incorporates dragons into the historical narrative. The series ran from 2006 to 2016 and established her as a major voice in fantasy literature. Beyond the Temeraire universe, Novik has written several acclaimed standalone fantasy novels. Uprooted, published in 2015, and Spinning Silver, published in 2018, draw inspiration from Polish folklore and fairy tales respectively. She also completed the Scholomance trilogy between 2020 and 2022, a dark academia fantasy series. In addition to her fiction writing, Novik has been instrumental in fan culture and digital archiving. She helped create the Organization for Transformative Works and was a cofounder of Archive of Our Own, a significant nonprofit project dedicated to preserving transformative fan works. Novik's contributions to speculative fiction have been widely recognized. She has won numerous awards including the Alex, Audie, British Fantasy, Locus, Mythopoeic, and Nebula Awards.
