Edward Holcomb Stiles was born on October 3, 1836, in Granby, Connecticut. He worked as a lawyer and was active in politics, serving in both the Iowa House of Representatives and the Iowa Senate. In addition to his legal and political career, Stiles was also a writer. He died on May 9, 1921, in Pasadena, California.
