Thomas Common

Thomas Common was a translator and critic active in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is primarily remembered for translating several books by Friedrich Nietzsche into English, making the German philosopher's work accessible to English-speaking audiences during a formative period of Nietzsche's reception in the Anglophone world. Common was a well-educated and literate scholar, though biographical details about his life remain sparse. He lived in Corstorphine, Scotland, an area that is now a suburb of Edinburgh. He died in 1919.
