Soren beats his small wings desperately as he falls from his nest in the peaceful Tyto Forest. The young owl crashes to the ground and gets captured by strangers who drag him to the ominous St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls. At this prison disguised as a school, Soren and other owlets face forced labor and exposure to the full moon, which hypnotizes them into empty shells stripped of their memories and identities. Any questions or resistance brings terrible punishment or death. Soren fights to preserve who he is while befriending Gylfie, another captive owl. Together they realize their only escape requires learning to fly so they can reach Ga Hoole, the legendary kingdom of warrior owls who might protect them from this danger. Soren and Gylfie must discover why owls are being kidnapped and whether Ga Hoole truly exists or remains just a myth.
