A Critical Conjunction

by Lorna Barrett

First published 2026

Tricia Miles did not know she was going into business with her sister. Angelica announces to their chosen family that the two of them are taking over Stoneham Stoneware, a kitchen and home goods shop that has been struggling to stay afloat. Tricia is caught off guard, but she knows they can turn the place around, and she gets on board. Then they take possession of the store and find it wrecked. The previous owner, Leona, is dead inside. The deal had already been messy. Leona sold the business because she needed money, then tried to back out after the sale went through. Angelica held firm. The two women argued in front of witnesses, and Leona left those encounters bitter. Now she is gone, and Angelica looks like someone with a motive. Tricia starts digging and finds that Leona had friction with more than one person in Stoneham. The field of suspects is wider than it first appeared. But the clock is moving. If Tricia cannot identify the killer, Stoneham Stoneware may never open its doors, and someone else could end up dead. The sisters built something together. Tricia is not about to let a murderer take it apart.
