Part of The Hollows, book 10
First published 2012
Bodies turn up across Cincinnati, grotesque fusions of human and supernatural flesh. Rachel Morgan gets called in by both the Inderland Security service and the Federal Inderland Bureau to investigate the ritual murders. The former witch, now a day-walking demon, quickly discovers the killers are human supremacists with a twisted plan. They want to manufacture their own demons and use these creatures to wipe out all Inderlanders. To succeed, they need Rachel's blood specifically. Rachel has battled vampires, witches, werewolves, and demons throughout her career, but this enemy presents a different kind of threat. The humans hunting her represent the species she once belonged to, forcing her to confront prejudice and hatred from those who see her supernatural abilities as an abomination that must be destroyed.
