Casey Jordan has rebuilt her career around helping those without power. She runs a legal aid clinic after leaving her wealthy husband and prestigious law firm behind. When Senator Tucker Dean shoots an illegal Mexican immigrant on a Dallas ranch, the incident looks like a hunting accident. The popular young senator gives a tearful press conference and the story seems closed. Then the victim's sister in law comes forward with new information. She reveals that the senator's wife had been visiting the dead man regularly. Casey believes Dean murdered the immigrant out of jealousy and revenge. The case grows more suspicious when immigration officials seize the victim's daughter and try to deport his wife. Casey takes her evidence to prosecutors, but no one will touch the case. Dean wields too much power and sits on track for a presidential nomination. Casey decides to pursue justice through civil court on behalf of the victim's mother. She faces a cunning opponent who plays dirty and considers himself untouchable.
