All These Worlds

by Dennis E. Taylor

Part of Bobiverse, book 3

First published 2017

Bob has spent nearly a century as a sentient spaceship, creating copies of himself and establishing human colonies across space. His clones have ensured humanity's survival, but they cannot escape conflict. Brazilian probes hunt them relentlessly while political tensions from Earth persist in the colonies. The Bobs have also provoked a dangerous enemy: an ancient alien species called the Others, who possess superior technology and aggressive tendencies. After suffering a crushing defeat in their first encounter, the Bobs prepare for a final confrontation to protect Earth and the colonies. The younger Bob copies focus on local concerns rather than the greater threat, making coordination nearly impossible. Deep in space, two eighth-generation Bobs discover something that could save humanity. They must transport their discovery to the Sol system before the Others launch their decisive attack. The fate of Earth and all human settlements depends on whether these distant Bobs can deliver salvation in time.
