Amy on the Summer Road

by Morgan Matson

First published 2012

Amy has withdrawn completely since her father's death. Now her mother wants to move from California to the East Coast and expects Amy to drive there with Roger, a boy she has never met. Amy feels furious about the arrangement. When Roger arrives, though, he turns out to be sweet and likable. The two connect immediately and agree that Amy's mother has chosen the most boring possible route for their trip. They decide to take their own wild journey across the country instead. As Amy slowly makes peace with her past during their adventure, she realizes how much she likes this boy. Roger carries his own emotional burden that weighs on his heart.
