Antipode Adventuress

by Susan Straight

First published 2016

The protagonist leaves her mountain home with barely enough cash to survive. She lands in New Zealand determined to see the antipodes without going broke. Each day brings new challenges as she searches for work to fund the next leg of her journey. From New Zealand's rugged landscapes to Australia's vast territories, she takes whatever jobs she can find. Her travels eventually extend to Europe, where the same financial pressures follow her. She learns to navigate foreign cultures while stretching every dollar. The work is often hard and the accommodations basic, but each new place teaches her something about herself. Her adventure becomes less about the destinations and more about discovering what she can endure and achieve when money runs short but determination runs deep.
