Following Greta Gerwig's acclaimed Barbie film, Margot Robbie and stylist Andrew Mukamal created a fashion project that bridges the gap between doll and haute couture. They studied Barbie's most famous outfits and vintage pieces, then collaborated with top designers like Giorgio Armani and Donatella Versace to craft human-sized versions inspired by the miniature originals. When the official press tour ended early, many looks remained unseen. Robbie and Mukamal partnered with fashion photographer Craig McDean to capture these creations in carefully chosen locations: Schiaparelli pieces in Los Angeles, Vivienne Westwood in London, vintage Chanel paired with matching luggage at airports. Art director Fabien Baron transforms McDean's photography into rich collages featuring original Barbie dolls, rare materials from Mattel's fashion archives, designer sketches, and fitting Polaroids. The book includes writing from Robbie and Mukamal alongside handwritten notes from participating designers including Olivier Rousteing, Michelle Ochs, Manolo Blahnik, and Jeremy Scott. This collection celebrates both sophisticated fashion and Barbie's playful legacy.
