Slade Barlow grew up in a trailer behind his mother's hair salon in Parable, Montana. His wealthy rancher father never acknowledged him. Now that father is dead, and Slade has inherited half of Whisper Creek Ranch. His half brother Hutch grew up as a legitimate Carmody heir with all the privileges that brought. Hutch also had the love of Joslyn Kirk, the town's former beauty queen whom Slade never forgot. These days Joslyn works multiple jobs to repay the money her crooked stepfather stole from townspeople. She can barely keep her head above water. Slade has his own problems as sheriff protecting the town and raising a rebellious teenage stepdaughter. But he sees that Joslyn blames herself for crimes she didn't commit. Someone needs to show her she's only responsible for her own choices. That includes what she does to his carefully guarded heart.
