First published 2010
Josh MacPhee began commissioning political posters in 1998. Over more than a decade, he worked with over eighty artists to create more than one hundred posters celebrating revolution, racial justice, women's rights, queer liberation, and labor movements. This collection brings together works by Cristy Road, Swoon, Nicole Schulman, Christopher Cardinale, Sabrina Jones, Eric Drooker, Klutch, Carrie Moyer, Laura Whitehorn, Dan Berger, Ricardo Levins Morales, Chris Stain, and others. MacPhee presents these images as a visual journey spanning decades and continents. Rebecca Solnit provides the foreword. The book showcases how contemporary socially engaged artists interpret activism and organizing through poster design. Readers gain access to stories and imagery that illuminate the history and continuing influence of resistance movements.
