Change Up

by Derek Jeter

First published 2016

Derek has big plans for the baseball season ahead. His father promised to coach the youth team, and Derek figures everything will fall into place perfectly. He sees himself starting at shortstop, his favorite position, while the team marches toward a championship under his dad's guidance. But Derek quickly learns that having your father as coach creates complications he never anticipated. His carefully laid plans start to unravel when reality doesn't match his expectations. Other players deserve consideration for shortstop. Team chemistry matters more than individual ambitions. Derek must navigate the awkward territory between being the coach's son and being just another player trying to earn his spot. As the season progresses, Derek faces growing pains that force him to reconsider what success really means. He discovers that the best seasons don't always go according to plan, and sometimes the most important victories happen off the field. Derek learns to handle disappointment, adapt to change, and find his place on a team where his last name can't guarantee him anything.
