Part of InCryptid
First published 2016
Verity Price is back on the West Coast, doing what her family does best: pulling cryptids out of dangerous situations and keeping them out of monster hunters' crosshairs. Her husband Dominic, a former Covenant operative, works alongside her. The work is messy and constant, but it is hers. Then the phone rings. The producers of Dance or Die, the reality competition Verity nearly won years ago, want her back for another shot. She says yes. She and Dominic pack up and head to Los Angeles, telling themselves it is just one more job, just one last dance. It is not. When two contestants turn up dead on set, Verity finds herself running two operations at once: compete convincingly enough to stay in the game, and quietly investigate a string of murders without anyone learning what she actually is. Every ally she can reach gets pulled in. The central question stops being whether she can win the competition. It becomes whether she can keep everyone alive long enough to find out who is killing them.
