Amy Reed works PR for a tech startup in Palo Alto, run by Donny, her college roommate's nineteen-year-old son who studies at Stanford. Donny has created an algorithm that claims to show people their alternate lives across different universes based on the choices they didn't make. He wants Amy to test it. Amy questions his theories but can't resist seeing who she might have become with different decisions and different loves. Meanwhile, her husband Dan, an out-of-work journalist, travels to Fukushima with Maryam, an award-winning photographer. Working with Maryam awakens feelings in Dan that have been missing from his marriage. When a crisis forces both Amy and Dan to face their relationship, they must decide if the distance between them can be bridged or if their alternate lives might offer something better than their reality together.
