Credible Threat

Part of Ali Reynolds, book 15

First published 2020

Archbishop Francis Gillespie receives anonymous death threats that local police won't take seriously. He asks Ali Reynolds and her husband B. Simpson for help, but B. is overseas handling a cybersecurity crisis. Ali takes the case alone, working to identify who wants the archbishop dead. A shooter attacks the archbishop's car, killing his driver and badly wounding Gillespie himself. Ali partners with a Phoenix homicide detective to stop the next attack. The threats stem from Rachel Higgins, whose son died from a drug overdose years earlier. Higgins discovered that her son's addiction began after abuse by a pedophile priest during high school. She blames the Catholic Church and has chosen the archbishop as her target for revenge. As Ali closes in on the truth, Higgins becomes more unstable and more determined to complete her mission. Ali must stop a grieving mother whose pain has turned to deadly vengeance.
