First published 2019
Photographer Gregg Segal travels across continents with a simple but revealing challenge for children everywhere. He asks kids from different nations to record every single thing they consume over seven days. Each participant keeps a careful log of meals, snacks, and drinks. Segal then creates striking portraits that surround each child with the complete collection of their weekly food intake. The project reveals how globalization shapes our eating habits and transforms our connection to the world. These vibrant, meticulously arranged photographs capture the diversity of how young people nourish themselves in the early decades of the 21st century. The images become windows into different cultures and economic circumstances. Through this lens, Segal shows us the complex relationship between childhood, culture, and consumption in our interconnected world.
