Part of Wild Seasons
First published 2015
Lola and Oliver woke up married in Las Vegas, looked at each other, and agreed to pretend it never happened. Now they are just friends, which works fine on paper. Lola spends most of her time in her studio drawing the graphic novel that has quietly become her whole world. Oliver is steady, warm, and easy to be around, and Lola has wanted him since the first time she heard him speak in that Australian accent. She has kept that to herself. Oliver tells himself the same story about the friend zone, but he stopped believing it a while ago. When Lola's graphic novel breaks through to national attention and gets fast-tracked as a major film, everything in her life speeds up in ways she did not ask for. Oliver shows up anyway, again and again. Lola is not someone who opens easily to people, but she has always opened to him. At some point, both of them have to decide whether the friendship they protected was worth more than what they kept turning away from.
