Hercule Poirot expects a peaceful break when he travels to Charlock Bay in North Devon. His friend Joseph Aarons has requested a meeting about a minor matter, giving Poirot and Hastings a chance to step away from their demanding detective work. The bus journey to the coastal town introduces them to Mary Durrant, a young woman carrying valuable miniatures to deliver to a client. What begins as a simple holiday consultation becomes complicated when Durrant's priceless cargo vanishes. Poirot finds himself managing two separate cases simultaneously, testing his famous methods against the backdrop of Devon's scenic landscape. The detective must balance his obligation to Aarons with the urgent mystery of the missing miniatures, all while supposedly taking time to rest and recharge.
