Emily Arundell takes a tumble down the stairs at her Market Basing home. Everyone points fingers at Bob, her energetic terrier who left a rubber ball on the steps. But Emily grows suspicious that the accident was no accident at all. She becomes convinced that one of her own relatives tried to murder her. On April 17th, Emily puts her fears and suspicions down in a letter addressed to detective Hercule Poirot. She asks him to visit her right away. The letter goes astray and doesn't reach Poirot until June 28th. By then, Emily Arundell is already in her grave. Poirot must now investigate whether Emily's paranoia was justified or if she died from natural causes after all.
