Dynamite Road

First published 2003

Jim Bishop operates by his own rules. Cold and brutal, he works cases for Scott Weiss, an ex-cop who runs a detective agency from a San Francisco high-rise. Weiss assigns Bishop to investigate corruption at a Northern California airport, but Bishop takes the job further than intended. He flies reconnaissance missions to track illegal flights run by Chris Wannamaker, then seduces Wannamaker's wife for information. Meanwhile, Weiss pursues his own investigation into a series of deaths across the city. A mansion killing in Presidio Heights, a murder South of Market, and a suicide off the Golden Gate Bridge all point to the Shadowman, a professional assassin from Weiss's past. The cases converge around Julie Wyant, a woman who captivates every man she encounters. Bishop discovers he has stumbled into a vast criminal conspiracy that will culminate in an audacious act of violence. As the Shadowman closes in and Bishop's wife faces danger, Weiss races to stop the killer who has haunted him for years.
