Dr. Eric Parrish runs the psychiatric unit at Havemeyer General Hospital outside Philadelphia. His department ranks second nationally, but his personal life falls apart after separating from wife Alice. He struggles to parent seven-year-old daughter Hannah alone. Eric takes on Max, a seventeen-year-old patient whose dying grandmother triggers violent fantasies about a classmate. Max's OCD compels him to perform mental rituals every quarter hour to stay calm. The pressure builds until Max disappears right when the girl turns up murdered. Eric searches for his missing patient, making himself look suspicious to police. Then a staff member accuses him of sexual harassment in what seems like a setup. Eric faces mounting evidence that someone wants to destroy his career and reputation. He must figure out whether these disasters connect or if coincidence is tearing his world apart.
