Kate has built what looks like the perfect life in San Francisco. At forty-four, she shares a comfortable marriage with Ron, raises two children, and enjoys their beautiful home. Everything shifts when they attend a dinner party and meet Peter and Jill. Kate exchanges only brief pleasantries with Peter, but that night she finds herself consumed by unexpected desire for him. What starts as a simple attraction grows into something far more dangerous. Kate pursues Peter until they share one intense encounter. She believes she can return to her normal routine and forget what happened. Peter has different plans. Soon after, Kate sits in a cafe with her best friend when a masked gunman storms inside. He opens fire with an assault weapon, shooting randomly into the crowd. This attack becomes the first in a series of terrible events that force Kate to confront the true price of her choices.
