Tim Blake thinks he knows where his daughter Sydney is. She is pulling shifts at a local hotel, saving up money for the summer. Then she stops coming home. Tim goes to the hotel to find her and the staff tell him they have never heard of Sydney Blake. She has no job there. She never did. That single fact cracks Tim's world open. If Sydney was not at the hotel, he has no idea where she was going every day or who she was spending her time with. He has no idea what she needed to hide from him. He starts digging, and what he finds is worse than confusion. The one thing keeping Tim from assuming the worst is this: dangerous people are looking for Sydney too. Whoever they are, they want her found. That means she could still be alive. It also means Tim is now in a race he did not sign up for, against people who play by none of the rules he does. The question driving every page is not just where Sydney is, but whether her father will reach her before they do.
