First published 1994

Henry Grey ignores his family's disapproval and takes a job flying racehorses around the world. His relatives consider the work beneath their social standing, but Henry finds purpose in the challenging logistics of airborne animal transport. The horses require careful handling, and each flight brings new complications. Henry learns to manage frightened animals in cramped aircraft cargo holds while navigating weather delays and mechanical problems. But during one routine transport job, Henry realizes his cargo manifest doesn't match what he's actually carrying. Someone has been using the horse flights to smuggle something far more dangerous. Henry must figure out who is behind the deception and what they're really moving before his next landing becomes his last. The discovery puts him in direct conflict with people who will kill to protect their operation.
