GHOUL

by Mark Ronson

First published 1980

An earthquake splits open the earth in the Valley of the Jinn, revealing a tomb sealed for twenty-five centuries. The archaeologists who discover it believe they have found the prize of their careers. They descend into the maze of tunnels and caves, eager to explore what lies within. But something else stirs in the darkness. Bodies appear in a nearby graveyard, torn and mutilated beyond recognition. Officials blame wild animals for the carnage. The archaeologists continue their work, unaware that they have awakened an ancient creature whose hunger has festered for millennia. The ghoul stalks the passages around them, adding fresh corpses to its collection. Only one legendary treasure might save them from becoming the next victims in its tomb of trophies.
