Amma stands before her latest theatrical production, a work exploring her identity as a Black lesbian playwright. Her success connects her to eleven other Black British women whose lives intersect across London and beyond. Her old friend Shirley teaches in underfunded schools, growing cynical after decades in education. Carole, once Shirley's student, now works as an investment banker while her mother Bummi cleans offices and fears her daughter has lost touch with her roots. A nonbinary social media influencer builds their platform while a ninety-three-year-old woman tends her farm in Northern England. These women span generations and social classes, from different corners of Britain's African and Caribbean diaspora. Their stories weave together through shared experiences of race, sexuality, age, and class in post-Brexit Britain. Each woman carries the weight of colonial history while forging her own path forward. Their connections reveal how individual struggles mirror collective experiences, showing the bonds that unite them despite forces trying to divide them.
