Bodie Kane has built a new life as a film professor and podcaster, leaving behind family tragedy and her troubled years at Granby School in New Hampshire. She especially wants to forget senior year, when her roommate Thalia Keith was killed. The school's athletic trainer Omar Evans went to prison for the murder, though the case still sparks fierce online arguments about his guilt. When Granby invites Bodie back to teach a course, she reluctantly returns to campus. Being there stirs up memories she thought she had buried. As she digs deeper into what happened that year, Bodie begins to question whether the police got it right. She realizes the investigation may have overlooked crucial evidence. More troubling, she starts to remember details from 1995 that she had forgotten or ignored. The closer she looks, the more she suspects that someone else killed Thalia. Bodie must confront not only what really happened to her roommate, but also her own role in letting an innocent man take the blame.
