Farid's mentor Dustfinger has found a crooked storyteller who can read him back into the enchanted realm of Inkworld. But when Dustfinger abandons Farid to return, the young apprentice seeks out Meggie to follow him back through the pages. In Inkworld, they discover Basta and Mortola are plotting against Dustfinger, holding Meggie's parents captive. As Mortola forces the storyteller to read them all into the book, a violent confrontation erupts, leaving Meggie's father gravely injured. Now it's up to Farid, Meggie, and the storybook's creator to infiltrate the Adderhead's dungeon and rescue the captives before they're executed.
