Cordelia and her best friend Larkin live in the Glades, a swamp filled with magical creatures. When Cordelia's father Oziris dies suddenly, a dark curse spreads across their village. The girls believe the curse caused his death and decide they must break it to save their home and bring Oziris back. Cordelia, Larkin, and their younger brothers venture deep into the dangerous swamp to find a mysterious witch who can supposedly reverse death. The familiar Glades have turned hostile. Marsh-maids, bogilisks, and dragon-gators threaten them at every turn. Yet as the children push deeper into the wilderness, they realize the magical dangers pale beside the grief eating away at their hearts. Their quest becomes as much about healing their own pain as saving their village.
