Connor Raposo witnesses a motorcycle accident on Bank Street in New London, Connecticut. A man gets sliced in half by a reversing dump truck. Connor thinks it was an accident, but he can't be sure of anything these days. He works at Bounty, Inc., soliciting funds for fake charities. Their latest scam is Prom Queens Anonymous, Inc., which supposedly helps former high school celebrities adjust to adult life. Connor's current target is Angelina Rossi, Pumpkin Queen of 1985 and ex-wife of someone called Fat Bob. Local detectives Manny Streeter and Benny Vikström investigate the motorcycle wreck. Despite constantly trying to prove each other wrong, they conclude the death was murder. As the detectives ask questions around town, Connor searches for answers that will determine whether he lives or dies. He needs to know who Fat Bob is and whether he's actually dead. The investigation draws Connor deeper into a web of pride, revenge, and deception.
