The Landmark Trust marks its 50th anniversary by placing Antony Gormley's life-size cast iron figures across five isolated British locations. Author Jeanette Winterson journeys to these remote destinations: Saddell Bay on the Mull of Kintyre, South West Point on Lundy island, Clavell Tower at Kimmeridge Bay, a Martello Tower in Aldeburgh, and Lengthsmans Cottage in Lowsonford. At each site, she encounters Gormley's sculptures standing against dramatic backdrops of coastlines and waterways. The iron figures inhabit these landscapes through changing weather and seasons. Winterson responds with meditative writing that captures her experience of both the artworks and their settings. Photographer Clare Richardson documents the sculptures within their environments, showing how they interact with sea, sky, and shifting atmospheric conditions. The book becomes a record of this unique art installation and an exploration of how sculpture transforms landscape and how place shapes meaning.
