Claire Danvers finds herself working alone when her boss becomes absorbed in studying the Founder Houses of Morganville. Three vampires have disappeared from town without leaving any clues behind. Claire's investigation leads her to Magnus, a newcomer who was the final person spotted with one of the vanished vampires. When Claire meets Magnus face to face, the encounter leaves her deeply unsettled. She becomes convinced that Magnus possesses abilities beyond those of ordinary humans. The question that haunts her investigation is whether Magnus is himself a vampire or represents something far more dangerous. As Claire digs deeper into the mystery, she must determine what Magnus truly is while the missing vampires remain unaccounted for. The fate of the missing vampires and possibly Morganville itself may depend on Claire solving this puzzle before Magnus strikes again.
