Last Snow

by Eric Van Lustbader

First published 2010

Jack McClure receives an urgent call from the President. An American senator has turned up dead on the Italian island of Capri, far from his supposed political mission to Ukraine. The President wants answers. Jack's dyslexic mind processes information differently than most people, letting him see patterns others miss. This cognitive difference makes him both vulnerable and uniquely capable as he begins his investigation in Moscow. His trail leads across Eastern Europe through a network of diplomats, criminals, and corrupt politicians. Jack travels with two women who complicate his mission: Annika Dementieva, a rogue Russian FSB agent, and Alli Carson, the President's daughter. Enemies pursue them from multiple directions. The Russian mafia wants them dead. Ukrainian police hunt them. Even Jack's own NSA has turned against him. As Jack digs deeper, he discovers corruption reaches the highest levels of both American and Russian governments. He struggles to protect both women while grieving his daughter's recent death and his failed marriage.
