Louise discovers an ornate necklace at a London secondhand shop in 1953. The piece comes in a box bearing the name of a Parisian department store, and Louise recognizes it from her Red Cross work in Nazi-occupied Europe. She believes the jewelry connects to the mysterious death of her friend Franny during the war. Louise travels to Paris and reunites with Ian, her former supervisor and romantic interest. As Louise pursues the links between the necklace, the store, and Franny's fate, she encounters resistance from those who want the truth to remain hidden. The investigation becomes a race against powerful forces determined to bury the past forever.
