Romeo Montague slips into enemy territory when he and his masked friends sneak into a Capulet celebration. There he spots Juliet Capulet and falls for her instantly, though she's promised to marry County Paris. The young lovers meet secretly and plan to wed the next day with help from Juliet's nurse and Friar Laurence. But when Romeo tries to stop a street brawl, he ends up killing Juliet's cousin Tybalt and faces banishment from Verona. Desperate to reunite with her new husband, Juliet takes a potion from the Friar that makes her appear dead. The plan goes wrong when Romeo never receives word that her death is fake. Finding what he believes is Juliet's lifeless body in the family tomb, Romeo drinks poison. Juliet awakens to discover Romeo's corpse and stabs herself with his dagger. Their deaths finally convince the feuding Montagues and Capulets to make peace.
