A thief breaks into what he thinks is an empty house but stumbles upon a murder taking place. Rather than call police and risk exposure of his own crimes, he flees into the night. The burglar believes he has escaped cleanly, but the killer spotted him during the break-in. Now the murderer begins hunting the only witness who can identify him. Chicago homicide detectives Abe Lieberman and Bill Hanrahan catch the original murder case. As they work to solve the killing, they find themselves racing against time. The burglar faces an impossible choice between staying hidden and staying alive. Each day he remains silent brings the killer closer to silencing him permanently. The investigation forces all three men to confront how far they will go to protect themselves.
