Part of Stone Barrington, book 16
First published 2009
Stone Barrington's week goes from bad to worse when his glamorous Russian girlfriend dumps him over dinner at Elaine's and his bank account runs dangerously low. Relief comes in the form of a lucrative case: finding the missing son of a wealthy client. The job seems perfect since the young man has fled to Key West, where Stone can work on his tan while collecting a fat fee. Stone brings along his friend Dino Bacchetti for what should be an easy payday in paradise. But Key West proves far from the tropical vacation Stone expected. Someone ambushes him at a local bar, nearly killing him in the process. The attack makes Stone realize that his target may have compelling reasons to stay hidden. What began as a simple missing person case transforms into something far more dangerous. The sunny Florida Keys start to feel less like a Caribbean getaway and more like the deadly streets of Manhattan that Stone knows all too well.
