Part of Mrs. Pollifax, book 9
First published 1990
Mrs. Pollifax arrives in Morocco for what appears to be straightforward work. She will pretend to be the aunt of a clumsy CIA agent while he confirms the identities of seven undercover operatives. The assignment goes wrong fast. At a brass shop in Fez, they watch their first contact get killed just after making visual contact. Mrs. Pollifax discovers her supposed partner is an impostor. Cut off from her CIA handlers with no support team, she chooses to hunt down the remaining six agents on her own. She understands the dangers facing an American woman traveling solo through Morocco. She also grasps that a murderer has taken the place of one original contact. Mrs. Pollifax has only her intelligence and experience to keep her alive while she races to finish the job before the killer strikes again.
